The DRAM market has had a lot of controversy in the past few years, from the shortages in 2017 and 2018.
To the alleged price fixing in 2018. There are 3 major manufacturers of DRAM, Samsung, Hynix, and Micron. These three suppliers have basically had a stranglehold on the market. Well now we have China attempting to enter the DRAM market. For those that do not know DRAM is your Desktop Memory modules. Memory, or RAM, essentially control how well your system can multitask.
As with humans, computers can only really handle one thing at a time efficiently but can have multiple items queued up and performs those tasks so quickly it looks as if they are being done simultaneously. Being an avid system builder myself I keep a close eye on hardware news to make sure my system, as well as any I build for customers, have the best parts and price that fit in a certain budget.
A new competitor in the DRAM market will mean more competitive pricing for the modules, which means better builds in a smaller budget. As with anything new the first products put out either make or break a company’s venture into a new market.
We sincerely hope that even though the China market will be using an outdated manufacturing process that results in larger chip sizes, the products are of good enough quality to seriously shake up the DRAM market and push prices lower.
