If you spill liquid on your computer, what is the first thing you should do?
Most people think you are supposed to power it back on and see if it works. At least after they dry off the keyboard and the case. That is a very dangerous thing to do, adding power to a computer that is not completely dry will cause it possibly short circuit or corrode connections inside. Your first step is to remain calm and disconnect the power from the device and dry the computer as thoroughly as possible. Remove the batteries as well if you can and then allow the computer to dry for at least a day.
Open it up flat and lay it on a towel, keyboard down. After that is done, you may want to bring it in to us to have it cleaned. We can clean your laptop thoroughly, and ensure the best possible outcome. We will also make an attempt to retrieve your data and back it up for you if needed. We will take the system apart, clean it, and follow up with you if any parts need replacement. We will get quotes together, and let you know the best course of action.
Remember, the last thing that you should do is to power it back on. Even if it does work, you may cause premature failure due to corrosion. If you are not sure what your next step is, feel free to contact us.
