We have migrated many of our clients to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phones this year.
This is a phone service that uses your data lines. We find that the brand of router has A LOT to do with VoIP working …. or not. When we started getting more VoIP migrations, we also made the switch to VoIP so we could, well, know what we were doing. We went through a lot of pain up front, trying router after router, and every different configuration possible and in the end, we are now happy with our VoIP system.
There are a few things to think about before switching to VoIP:
- Bandwidth: For a small office of (10) employees/phones, make sure you have at least 15X2 because the phones also use the internet.
- Use a “Peplink” Router: We tested many routers and in the end, once we installed the Peplink, everything just WORKED!
- If you have adequate bandwidth and a Peplink or other acceptable router, and you are still having issues, go around and look for internet radio users. Internet radio is a bandwidth hog, which can and does affect VoIP service.
If you have any questions about your current VoIP system or you are thinking about moving that way, feel free to give us a call as we are happy to help!
