Bluetooth is a wireless technology that links devices over short distances using short wavelength UHF radio waves in the ISM band from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz. We use it to connect wireless mice and headsets and sometimes to sync data across devices like phones or computer or stereos.
Bluetooth technology was initiated in 1989 in Sweden by a team working for Ericsson and finally released in 1997 after the industry standards were establish by a consortium or companies including Intel and Ericsson. It was originally going to be called Business -RF or MC Link… but after two of the top engineers from Intel and Ericsson went out for a night of drinking and started talking about history, it was dubbed Bluetooth.
Harald Bluetooth was a medieval king who united Denmark and Christianized the Danes a thousand years ago. The point of this technology is to unite devices and that’s what ole King Bluetooth did so, meh… why not?
The symbol of the technology is a combination of two runic symbols H+B (Harald Bluetooth).
…pretty cool, huh? …bet you didn’t know that!
